Random Thoughts

The #1, #2, and #3 teams in the country this past week combined to go 3-0; however, their margin of victory over the teams they defeated was a total of 20 points. Keep in mind that #4 Boise State also struggled to defeat Tulsa by a mere 7 points. What am I getting at? Well, WE NEED A PLAYOFF. There is no dominant College Football team out there this year and I do not see how we can let a bunch of fish hacks, Sports Information Directors, and computers determine who should be #1 and #2 at the end of the year. Lets just settle this thing once and for all. In the coming days, I will unveil my solution to this mess and offer a playoff format.

With performances of 140, 172, and 246 yards on the ground over the last three weeks, Alabama Runningback Mark Ingram has vaulted himself to the top of the Heisman race. Keep in mind I think the Heisman trophy is a joke trophy anyway, but somebody has to win it each year.

Nebraska football has a lot of question marks at this point. If a QB switch is going to be made, it has to be done now so Cody Green can hopefully get some prep work in against Iowa state and Baylor before Oklahoma comes to town on November 7. Oh yeah, the Big 12 North title is still in play for Nebraska; however, they have some work to do in order to catch Kansas State. Yes, I said Kansas State. They are currently 2-1 in the Big 12 North conference.

Charlie Weis did enough to save his job on Saturday by not getting blown out by USC. Charlie Weis now has two big victories in his career. a 3 point loss to USC in 2005 and a 7 point loss in USC in 2009. Keep in mind that Weis got a 10 year extension after that USC game in 2005, so I wonder if the Notre Dame board of trustees will give him another 5 years for this performance.

The parents of the balloon boy need to be locked up for about ten years. throw away the key and send their kids to foster homes so they can live a normal life.

College Basketball practices are officially underway. Despite the turmoil in Lawrence, it is expected that Kansas will open the year as the #1 team in the country. The Jayhawks return everyone that is a key component from last year's team and have a couple new recruits who will provide the Jayhawks perhaps the best depth in College Basketball. As we get closer to the first games, I will provide my preseason top 10.

As I previously mentioned, the Yankees are going to win the World Series so I am gonna offer no further insight into the baseball playoffs.

The NBA starts next Wednesday. It will probably take until January or February before you see any actual effort from teams on the court. I was also told the NHL season has started but I have yet to see any evidence of that happening yet.
